As I posted in the 'new members' section, It was great to meet the unit at the War+Peace show -it was good to be the 'other side'of the barrier and be part of the show. I enjoyed the atomsphere within the group and over the weekend I managed to get to chat to all the individual members one to one...and thanks to all for the friendly welcome I recieved. Also great to meet Dave (ropes) and Chris. I noticed the prime position the group was given in the living history area and can understand why the group is worthy of such a position.
As for the show itself, impressive living history/re-enactment displays/battles as always and the coffee deal at Red Ball is a cracking idea. The trade part of the show perhaps wasnt quite so good this year, but maybe the strong euro and the sheer size/popularity of the show does't help. Pleased to have picked up a decent splinter parka and I am impressed with my 'real' dog tags- as done by Hans (what an interesting character) and my jäger-abschied 'hunters farewell' beer stein!-Prost!
Finally thanks to Barry and Liam to firstly introducing me to the group and sharing their W&P Sunday 'deli' lunch with me while being photographed like a chimps tea party-il get some German/Austrian munchies and return the hospitality at Detling.
