Your right there. I looked at that fake snow that comes in bags a while back and its ridiculously expensive.

Id say 'hello snow scene' and 'ice to meet you'
Sorry couldnt resist that. Yup snow scene looked great in the other years pics -but big money i understand. I guess most of the group would rather invest their money in something more kit/equipment related that would enhance the re-enactment/the group and last more than just one show. Possibly if it became a 'must have' over other priorities it would be the kind of thing that could be shared with another group. Also im sure someone else in the group mentioned a while back that it could be good on our display to try and do a little scene to represent each theatre of operations the 5th Division was involved with -a snow scene, an arrid scene (crete) and central european scene.

OK
Say there's 24 members and it's £2000 then that's round about £84 each.
Or if you took 2008, 9 members its £222.22
You can not walk on it because it buggers it up and who is going to get it up on sunday night

its not that expensive the place im thinking to get it from is cheep.
a 15.99 box will cover about 4 square meaters at 1 inch thick.
and there is difrent types as well:
| Quote: | Recreating a crisp winters day in deepest Surrey with a light dusting of snow on the fields obviously requires a completely different kind of snow effect from a scene that calls for alpine vistas and deep drifts. It is rare that one single product will produce the desired effect, so we work with special effects directors and designers to get the right combination often using 6 or 7 different products. The length of time the snow is needed for, proximity to the camera, budget restrictions and the location will all play a big part in deciding which products to use.
Outdoor
SnowCel paper snow
Band of Brothers - Woodland patrol Very stable and weatherproof. More expensive than SnowEx foam or C90, but cost effective when the set is used for more than a week. SnowCel is good for work on location in its chemical free form. Full size SnowCel is used for dressing and bulking up. Half size is used for detail and close up work, it will also make for an easier clear up.
SnowEx foam
101 Dalmatians Fast to lay and very cheap, which is good for deeper snow and background dressing. It is not suitable for details on buildings, objects, or foreground action. Foam is self-clearing but cannot be used close to water and can cause temporary yellowing of foliage. Care must be exercised where it is used with animals.
C90
Archangel - Roads Fast to lay, easy to clear, eco-friendly, and relatively inexpensive. More stable than foam, it can be used for detail dressing and allows for advance dressing of large areas making it a good background white out. As it is a micro fine layer of white it registers as snow on roads, stone etc, but when in the foreground on textured detail such as grass or gravel it appears as frost or very light snow.
Terram
Terram cover 1 Synthetic sheet than comes in wide rolls and is a quick and easy alternative to white out large background areas. It can also be used as a protective base on sensitive sites and is simply rolled up at the end of the day
Indoor
SnowCel Paper Snow
Band of Brothers - SnowCel under foot Comes in a number of different varieties and we have developed a Class 1 fire resistant version especially for indoor/studio work. Full size is used for bulk and deep snow. Half size can be used to create a range of effects and works very well in extreme close up.
Plastic Snows / Display Snow
Available in a variety of flake sizes to give varied texture they can be used to create deep drifts and impressively realistic snow cover. Fine snows will allow extreme close up and detail. They suit small scale studio work and are often used as a final dressing to give other products a little lift or sparkle.
Polymer
Is a form of a dry powder that when mixed with water expands up to 40 times its original size. Most polymer snows create a more ice like, stickier substance. Snow Business polymer snow is much more snow-like and has been designed to simulate free flowing high altitude powder snow. It is normally used as a top dressing over SnowCel to improve footprint detail and more realistic ‘pick up’ on clothing in extreme close up shots. It is also an ideal material for ‘pack shots’ as it can be mixed in a variety of ways to create different effects. |

I presume you have cut and paste the information from the 'snow business' website (http://www.snowbusiness.com/what-we-do/info-pages/settled-snow-cover.aspx).
Im no expert on this, but members of this group with experience of this have already advised you about the feasibility of this. The price you quote does not factor in the machinery and possible labour etc that is required to break up an aerate place the snow (as i recall seeing on the making of the BoB) and the issue of the time and effort of cleanup. Not forgetting the possible permission required by the event ground owners. There is a industry fact/hazard sheet here: http://www.jmfx.net/files/products/safety/papersno_punched_msds_3.pdf
I would also be concerned about getting the dust/residue from this product on my kit and into the working parts of equipment weapons. And I still think that money effort would be better spent on obtaining individual and group items of kit/equpiment to ensure we all correctly look the part and any group money is spent on insurance, re-enactment costs and membership costs such as maintaining the website.
Sorry if this seems unhelpful or negative.

Berg heil kameraden
I think the general census is no Kris
Not being funny mate but instead of cannons and snow try and concentrate on aquirring the main parts of your basic Gebirgs kit such
as rucksack, ice axe, boots etc, instead of unrealistic/fantasy items.
Good hunting

Can we all think of new things for the group to do
Kris keep think of things dont give up
|
peiper

Berg heil lads
I agree Jon
We need to keep thinking up new things but within our own price limits as some of us have got other financial burdens
I was thinking maybe at one of the events we could dig a trench and perhaps get some sand bags filled and make a better effort of a display this time, i'll gladly help with the digging
And perhaps have our tents facing the road/pathway so the MOPs can have a good look at our gear, what do you reckon
