Hi all, although ive already got two, im looking for 2-3 splinter zeltbahns. Reproduction ones are fine as they will be buttoned up into a zelt shelter and given a waterproofing treatment. Ive already got the pole set/pegs. I know BJ has the tan type available, but I would like to hold out to get splinter zelts to go with the rest of kit so I can have a 'European theatre' arrangement to my loadout/display.

I know I get decent german made reproductions from places like Epic Militaria for about £35 (posted), but of course like the keep the cost per zeltbahn well under that.

£35 is the going rate for repro ones, SOF are the same price

they are allright,i got four,makes a sound bivvy

,but holes for pegs dont accept genuine pegs,i,when i can be arsed,whittle some out of wood,or borrow some coz i aint got any Very Happy

Ask BJ about the peg/holes thing. He sussed this out.

You are not supposed to put the pegs directly into the holes/eyes in the zelt. You thread a guy rope from the poles at the apex through the eyes and then put the peg through the loop in the end of the guy. This will stop the eyes pulling out of your zelt. We can demo at Nene Valley.

By the way the repro zelts I've seen are quite crap quality compared to originals and do not match originals. You cannot button an original to a repro correctly, the buttons are out of step..... As I've found to my cost!

This is a very good site.......shows you what you need for the zelt in lots of configurations.....you do need 4 ropes to run from the top of the poles through the eyelets then you peg through the rope NOT the eyelets.

Thanks for all the useful advice regarding Zeltbahns and zelt shelters. I know the pegs shouldnt go through the holes, as not only would this easily damage the holes, it would pull the zelt material down lower making the 'tent' shorter than it should be and having the material then effectively flattened on the ground its resistance to water tracking into the tent would be reduced. Using the rope and 'hoops' allows a tiny gap along bottom of zelt and ground and the angle of the material drops to 90deg allowing water/moisture to run down and away more easily. On the subject of shelters though, once i have enough for a 4 piece 'basic zelt' i'l consider getting a couple more to allow extending to a 'double' 8 section shelter or other configurations if i think its worth bothering with.

Anyway, im still looking to see if there is some suitable Zeltbahns available, for a better price before I take the alternative step of buying from a dealer for about £35 each, as i said ive got everything else to construct a zelt tent and can make some extra metal or wooden pegs if I need.

now dont get me started on the price of blankets!!! lol

On the zelt front, the cheapest ones ive seen are by Epic-Militaria
at £31 each i think (unless they've gone up)

No other dealers are doing them cheaper

The only other option is E-Bay buddy, unless you hold out until Belter's or
Detter's , no other dealer i know of do them any cheaper unfortunately

As previously said the going rate is usually in the £30 bracket Jacko
