Northe Fort, WeymouthIt was lovely to fit in another event before the season closed. I thoroughly enjoyed this event -the Fort is pretty much in the town of Weymouth over looking the sea/harbour and being a victorian fort it had a circular wall arrangement with a parade ground in the centre. The accomodation was inside the fort in the 'nuclear bunker' area that was cosy warm and dry. The fort volunteer staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. The cafe provided probably the best food a re-enactor could get in terms of a fresh homemade cooked breakfast and amazing evening meal with 4 choices of main dish with loads of vegetables, garlic bread etc and a range of desserts including a cheese board -all at a well subsidised price.
THe location has huge potential for future events as it provides a great WW2 oriented backdrop to any display/unit and is well contained/secure as well. Units could do drill, barrack life, guard gates and battlements with AA guns on etc as well as have battles such as an assault on the guns or other scenario could be played out.
I recieved a very friendly welcome from the Allied members of the society and i wish to thank all of them again for their hospitality and look forward to seeing them in the new season.
Many thanks for letting me know about this event, i shall certainly be very interested in going to this site again. Of course it is great that its not that far from my location too!
